TED ADDS METALS TO HIS WOODTURNINGS

This year Ted has added the art of lost wax casting of bronze to his artist's palette. This process, in addition to metalspinning, has allowed Ted to create a new range of art that is as unique as it is functional. To the left you can see an example of both metal arts. The cocobolo bowl has a metalspun pewter foot and pewter inlay bands at the rim, while the peppermill below has a cast bronze handle.

Ted spun the foot and attached it to the bowl after the bowl was turned and finished. You can see more examples of metalspun pewter on Ted's candlesticks.

Casting bronze handles for his Oriental Peppermills is done with a process known as "lost wax casting". Ted wanted to create a piece of art for the dining table that just happened to be a peppermill. He inlayed this mill with peppercorns and copper, and turned it from curly spalted maple and ziricote. These mills feature a crush grind mechanism and can crush peppercorns, sea salt or any spice. hYouer
