ABOUT OUR TOWNSHIP
Greene Township is a political entity of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The population of the Township establishes the basis of the designation as a Township of the Second class.
The Township is located in northeastern Pennsylvania at the southwestern tip of beautiful Lake Wallenpaupack.
The Township was created and incorporated April 24, 1839, by a carve out from Palmyra Township. The area included the Village of Greentown.
The federal Post Office used by the Township's Office, as well as a large section of the Township, is named Greentown, however many sections of Greene Township are served by the Newfoundland Post Office and use that as a mailing address, just as many residents of Palmyra are served by the Greentown Post Office and thus a Greentown mailing address.
