Customer-Originated Trace

Customer-Originated Trace allows you to identify harassing callers (with the joint cooperation of your local law enforcement agency and Laurel Highland Telephone Company) by tracing the phone number of the last incoming call to your line.


How To Use Customer-Originated Trace:

  1. When you receive a harassing call, press and release the receiver button quickly and listen for dial tone*. If you have already hung up, lift the handset and listen for dial tone.
  2. Press *57 on a touchtone telephone**.
  3. Listen for an announcement confirming that the last call has been traced.
  4. Hang up.


* A "link" or "flash" key on your telephone may be used instead.
** Or dial 1157 on a rotary telephone.


Notes:

  1. This service is already on your line and ready to use.
  2. Customer-Originated Trace can only trace the very last call coming in to your line. It must be used immediately after you hang up on the call you want traced. If you get another call or hear a Call Waiting tone first, you will trace the wrong call.
  3. The phone number of the traced call will be recorded at the phone company. If you decide to pursue the matter, you must work directly with the local law enforcement agency. Laurel Highland Telephone Company will provide the phone number of the traced call to the proper authorities. Under no circumstances will you directly be given the phone number of the traced call.
